Google Earth Activities

Google Earth is a virtual globe, map and geographical information program that was originally called Earth Viewer 3D.  In our first Quick App Challenge, workshop participants were given the task of developing a classroom activity using the Google Earth App.

Some suggestions included:
  1. Looking at geographic shapes in roads/locations and determining the distance between locations.
  2. Looking at geographic features in conceptual physics or in the study of weather and climate; identifying the driest areas and trying to figure out why they are there.
  3. In a study of Egypt, looking at landmarks along the Nile; plotting elevations along the Nile
  4. Neighborhoods: looking at large monuments in the neighborhood and, using the shadow, try to figure out what time of day the image was taken.
  5. Following the historical route of Lewis and Clark, determining the direction between points and finding key differences between the routes.
  6. Google Lit Trips!

Welcome to the NYSAIS iPad Workshop Blog!

On Wednesday, March 9, thirty teachers and administrators gathered at Brooklyn Friends School in Brooklyn to participate in the workshop iCreate. iInnovate. iLearn. Participants learned how to develop and implement an iPad program in their schools as well as engage in a variety of learning activities that use the iPad as a creative tool.
